K-12 IT Systems Administrator
Location: Cape Fear Christian Academy, Erwin, NC

Job Summary:
Cape Fear Christian Academy is seeking a highly skilled K-12 IT Systems Administrator to manage and maintain our IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable network performance, cybersecurity, software management, data backups, and user support. The ideal candidate will oversee network security, cloud-based systems, educational software, security systems, and surveillance systems while ensuring compliance with data protection policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Network & Security Administration
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues using UniFi Cloud Key.
- Maintain firewall security policies and monitor Untangle Firewall logs for threats.
- Conduct vulnerability scans, apply security patches, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity best practices.
- Manage the schoolwide security system and create user keycards as needed.
- Perform wireless site surveys to optimize Wi-Fi coverage and address weak spots.
Software Management & Support
- Monitor and support critical software systems (learning management systems, email, productivity tools).
- Review system logs for errors, track software usage trends, and optimize performance.
- Manage software licenses, perform audits, and ensure compliance with vendor agreements.
- Deploy and test software updates and patches to maintain system security and stability.
- Provide staff training on software tools, updates, and best practices.
Data Backup & Disaster Recovery
- Verify daily backups on NAS and cloud storage, addressing any errors.
- Conduct manual restore tests to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Plan and execute disaster recovery drills to test backup and recovery strategies.
Google Admin & User Management
- Create and manage student and staff accounts via Google Admin Console.
- Monitor login activity, enforce security policies, and review permissions.
- Conduct regular audits of inactive accounts and adjust security settings as needed.
Surveillance & NAS Storage Management
- Ensure surveillance cameras and NAS storage function properly and securely archive recorded footage.
- Monitor storage capacity, maintain retention policies, and perform hardware maintenance.
- Conduct physical inspections of camera hardware for alignment, wear, or malfunction.
Maintenance & Long-Term IT Strategy
- Perform routine firmware and software updates for networking, security, and surveillance systems.
- Plan and oversee hardware upgrades for networking, storage, and security infrastructure.
- Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and software licensing to ensure seamless operations.
- Conduct annual IT audits, assessing infrastructure performance and planning future technology upgrades.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1-3 years of IT administration experience in a K-12 or educational setting is strongly preferred
- Expertise in UniFi network, Untangle Firewall, Google Admin Console, Virtual Keypad, and NAS storage solutions.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, data privacy compliance (FERPA), and disaster recovery planning.
- Proficiency in managing software ecosystems, including licensing, patching, and integrations.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
