Our History

The beginning...

Cape Fear Christian Academy was organized in 1969, making it the oldest private school in Harnett County. A small group of businessmen with godly convictions sought to establish a Christian school for their children and others in the community. They wanted the school to provide an education that incorporated the Bible and Christian values into the academic curriculum.

What began as a small academy built in 1971 on five acres of land off 421 began to grow as Harnett County residents found value in placing students in a private Christian environment.  In May 1976, the Academy graduated its first class of students.

What was once a very small academy in rural Harnett County has grown to a college preparatory academy ensuring the leaders of tomorrow receive the academic excellence needed in a Christian environment to be successful in the surrounding community.  As the Academy expanded, buildings were placed to accommodate the demand for the rigor provided by faculty.

The new elementary building was added in 2000 and renovated in 2016 and the Academy acquired the land adjacent to the school now used for the soccer and softball fields. Major renovations that were started on the gymnasium started in 2014 and were finished in 2018 including air conditioning, storage, a concession area, and new bleachers as well as the purchase of over seven acres in additional land in 2019.  In 2020 a new shelter structure was added to the grounds allowing more outdoor fellowship.

To the now...

In the last decade, the Board of Directors, Head of Academy, Faculty, and Staff have collaborated to revise the mission, vision, values, and curriculum of the Academy using a continuous improvement lens and process.  This lens change resulted in increased engagement, scores, and enrollment ultimately leading to SACS AdvancED Accreditation for the Academy.  Almost six decades later, the Academy maintains its Christian heritage holding weekly chapel services for its faculty and students but has become the first choice for parents in the community for rigorous academics in a Christian environment.
